Extensive Experience Handling Child Support Matters
I worked as a prosecuting attorney with the California Department of Child Support Services (DCSS), handling 1,500 Family Court trials and evidentiary hearings in one year. I became certified by the DCSS to train other lawyers and child support professionals statewide on how to handle child support issues.
Alimony / Spousal Support Payments
Unless both spouses earn the same amount of money, it is usually inevitable that the higher-earning spouse will make alimony payments to the other spouse at least temporarily.
The amount and duration of these payments will depend on a number of factors, including the length of the marriage, each spouse's ability to support his or herself, the standard of living achieved during the marriage and many more.
Child Support for High Earning Obligors
In most cases, child support is easily calculated according to an equation contained in statutory guidelines. However, if either spouse has a high net worth or is the owner of a business, then the calculation becomes much more complex.
How should the court factor in bonus and incentive pay? How should income fluctuations resulting from a natural business cycle be calculated? Which business assets are relevant to a parent's ability to pay child support?
